Launching the foxtrot oscar traffic light system

Introducing: The Foxtrot Oscar Traffic Light System

Building a Culture of Consent, One Dance at a Time

Partner dancing is about connection, rhythm, and joy -but we also know that stepping onto the floor can sometimes feel a little daunting. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-timer, navigating "the ask" and understanding boundaries is a huge part of the social dance experience.

That’s why we are incredibly excited to announce the pilot of the Foxtrot Oscar Traffic Light System, launching at our social dance event on Saturday 31 January 2026.

What is the Traffic Light System?

Communication is key, but it doesn't always have to be verbal. To help everyone feel empowered and comfortable, we’ll be providing stickers at the door that sum up your "dancing mood" for the night.

By wearing a sticker (red, amber or green - descriptions below), you’re helping your fellow dancers understand your boundaries before the music even starts. It takes the guesswork out of the evening, allowing everyone to focus on the movement.

Why "Consent Champions"?

This isn’t just about stickers; it’s about a movement. We are striving to build a network of Consent Champions within our partner dance space.

By participating in this system, you’re helping us create an ongoing community of dialogue. We want to foster an environment where saying "no" is respected, saying "yes" is enthusiastic, and everyone feels safe to express their preferences.

A Living Experiment

Because this is a brand-new initiative, we’re treating this event as a live "beta test." We know that the best systems are built with the community, not just for them.

  • We want your feedback: What worked? What felt clunky?

  • We strive for improvement: We’ll be listening to your suggestions to refine how this works for future events.

Join Us This Saturday

Come be a part of this experiment! Grab a sticker, hit the floor, and help us shape the future of our dance community.

Have questions or thoughts before the event? We’d love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch via our contact page or come find one of the organizers on the night for a chat.

Let’s dance with confidence and respect. See you on the floor!
